Carrum members young and ̵o̵l̵d̵ masters enjoyed a change of scenery at the Melbourne Head Regatta today. The 3.5km time trial along the Yarra River from Herring Island to MUBC at Southbank runs in the reverse direction to the prestigious Head of the Yarra held next week. This event, dubbed "The Head Race Championship of Australia" has been running since 2003 and is inspired by the Head of the Charles River event in Boston, the largest head race in the world.
First up was the Masters Women's quad scull, made up of Fiona, Helen, Mishelle and Mary (coxed by Lynne), and posted the third fastest time in their event! Next up was the Women's Club coxed quad scull with Jacquie, Emma, Lisa and Jess (coxed by Angelique) and the Men's Club coxed quad scull with Mario, Geoff, David and Dave (coxed by Lynne) - both crews won their events! We also placed 2nd in the Year 9 boys coxed quad scull with Mal, Tim, Danel and Jackie (coxed by Serena). Special mention to David O'Brien who also competed in a composite eight and cycled 12km between events! Congratulations everyone on a fantastic day. Bring on Head of the Yarra next week!!!!
