CRC kicks off 2017 at Rutherglen
It's a brand new year and CRC is pumped for the second half of the regatta season - so much so that we entered a whopping 31 events at the MRA & Rutherglen Regatta at Lake Moodemere this weekend!
We had a number of highlights for the club, including fielding a men's eight for the first time in a number of years, and the shorter distances on Sunday's events allowed us to try out some new combinations and some more challenging boats (including some people racing their first ever singles or pairs events). Our junior boys also took a commanding win in the men's D4+ heat, with half the crew having never rowed in a four before!
Early in the morning saw our boys race in the U17 doubles, with Tim and Jackie taking out second place in the final, and Mal and Daniel following shortly behind in third place.
Next up was our Masters women in the quads, with Jacquie, Angelique, Lisa and Erin taking out the coxed event (with Adrian coxing); and Sara, Kelly Mishelle and Lynne racing the coxless event.
Our next highlight for the day was Marcela winning the Masters women's single sculls.
Our Masters women then raced again in the smaller boats, with Jacquie and Angelique winning the A Grade Masters double sculls, followed closely by Lisa and Erin.
Our junior boys then hit the water in single sculls, with Mal taking out a very close second place in the final, with Daniel taking out third.
One of the events we love at this regatta is the mixed doubles racing! Emma and Walter, having never rowed together before, took out second place in this event. The brother and sister combination of Jackie and Serena had an unfortunate meeting with a wayward sculler who drifted out of the transit lane, but managed to recover with a strong finish to the race.
Another scratch crew of Walter, Adrian, Geoff and David (coxed by Jackie) rowed up into a more challenging division, qualified for the final and had a fantastic row in a very close race to take out third place in the Men's C quad.
Our women's eight topped off the regatta with a win in the Masters 8+, then quickly turned the boat around to win the final of the D grade 8+!
Congratulations to all CRC members who competed, and special congratulations to Angelique and Jacquie who won 4 out of 4 events on Saturday! Bring on the rest of 2017!
