Bridge to the Vines - rowing AND wine? yes please!

Published Sat 22 Oct 2016

Four Carrum crews attended the eleventh annual 7.2 kilometre Head of the Goulburn 'Bridge to the Vines' regatta today. Known as the only regatta in the world to finish at a winery, the race starts at historic Chinaman's Bridge in Nagambie and finishes at the equally historic Tahbilk Winery (named Australian Winery of the Year 2015). Along the way competitors enjoyed the beautiful Goulburn River, passing the birthplace of champion racehorse Black Caviar. After the racing, competitors and spectators will enjoy the carnival atmosphere at the Cellar, featuring a rock band and a variety of gourmet food and wine stalls.

The usually protected river had a tough headwind this year! A big congratulations to our women's masters coxless quad (Fiona, Mishelle, Erin and Mary) and women's coxed c-grade quad (Jackie, Emma, Lisa and Jess, coxed bu Angelique) who won their events today!! Our men's d-grade four (David, Geoff, Mike and Dave, coxed by Lynne) also had a great row in their event and Marcela put in a stellar effort in the 70+ age group in the women's masters single sculls in difficult conditions.

A massive thank you to Nagambie Rowing Club for such a well organised regatta and Tahbilk Winery for the excellent post race celebrations. As always, a big thanks to Rowing Victoria, the umpires and volunteers.
